語源
「arabize」は英語に由来し、アラビア語の'Arab'（アラブ）と動詞形成の接尾辞'-ize'（語源はギリシャ語'-izein'、ラテン語経由）から作られた。'Arab'は人々・地域を指し、'-ize'は「〜にする・〜化する」の意味を持つ。
「Arab」は古フランス語'Arabe'、中世ラテン語'Araba'を経て英語に入り、現代英語で接尾辞'-ize/-ise'を付けて「アラブ化する」という動詞が形成された。
当初はアラブ人やアラビア語に関するものを意味していたが、現在ではテキストをアラビア文字に変換することや、広くアラブ的特徴を採用することも指すようになった。
