語源
「antiromantic」は、ギリシャ語接頭辞「anti-」（ギリシャ語 'ἀντί'、『反対』）と英語の『romantic』（フランス語 'romantique'、最終的には俗ラテン語の 'romanice' に由来）を結合した語に由来する。ここで『anti-』は『反対』を、『romantic』は元々は『ロマンス（口語物語）』に関係し、後にロマン主義を指すようになった。
