語源
「antitryptic」は接頭辞「anti-（～に対して）」と「tryptic（トリプシンに関する）」を組み合わせて近代英語で作られた語です。
「trypsin」はニューラテン語・科学用語の「trypsinum」に由来し、最終的にはギリシャ語 trýpsis（τρύψις；こすること、摩擦）にさかのぼります。そこから「tryptic（トリプシンに関する）」ができ、『anti-』と結合して「antitryptic」となりました。
元々は「トリプシンに対抗する／阻害する」という意味で作られ、トリプシンを阻害する物質やトリプシンによる分解に耐える物質の両方を指すようになりました。
