語源
「retint」は英語に由来し、『再び』を意味する接頭辞're-'と、古フランス語の'teint'（ラテン語の'tingere'に由来し『染める』を意味する）から来た'tint'とが結合してできた。
'tint'は古フランス語の'teint'（動詞'teindre'の過去分詞）から中英語に入り、さらにラテン語の'tingere'に遡る。英語では接頭辞're-'を付けて'retint'が作られ、動詞や名詞の派生（-ing, -edなど）が規則的に発生した。
