語源
「concurrency」はラテン語の「concurrentia」（動詞「concurrere」由来）に由来し、接頭辞の「con-」は「一緒に」、語根の「currere」は「走る」を意味した。
「concurrency」は後期ラテン語の「concurrentia」から発展し、古フランス語や中世ラテン語の影響を経て中英語の「concurrence」となり、最終的に現代英語の名詞「concurrency」になった。
当初は「一緒に走ること・出会うこと」を意味していたが、時を経て「同時発生」やコンピュータ・幾何学・法的用法などの現在の意味に発展した。
