語源
「cold-work」は英語で『cold』＋『work』の複合語に由来し、『cold』が低温の意味、『work』が作業・加工の意味を表す。
『cold』は古英語の「ceald」から、『work』は古英語の「weorc」から来ており、近代の専門用語として低温で行う機械的加工を指す語に発展し、冶金での『冷間加工』という専門用語に特化した。
