語源
「chirally」は英語に由来し、形容詞「chiral」に副詞化の接尾辞「-ly」を付けて『キラルに・手性のように』の意味を作った語である。
「chiral」は19世紀後半（ウィリアム・トムソン＝ロード・ケルヴィンに帰される造語）にギリシャ語の語根 'cheir'（手）から作られ、科学用語として英語に入り『chirality』『chirally』といった派生語を生んだ。
元々は『手に関する・手のような性質』を示していたが、特に化学では『鏡像と重ならない性質（手性）』という専門的な意味に発展した。
