語源
「animalization」は、動詞「animalize」（仏語 animaliser）に由来し、ラテン語「animalis（生き物）」に英語接尾辞「-ation（過程・結果）」が付いた形成語。
仏語「animaliser」と初期近代英語の「animalize」から名詞形「animalization／animalisation」が生まれ、現代英語で「animalization」に定着した。
当初は物質が動物組織へ同化される生理学的意味を指し、その後「動物のようにする」一般的な意味や、人を動物として扱う比喩的な非人間化の意味へと拡張した。
