立体の写真・立体像
語源
「stereograph」はギリシャ語由来の学術的造語で、要素は「stere(o)-」と「graph」で、「stereos」は「立体（固体）」を、「graph」（graphein由来）は「書く・描く」を意味した。
「stereograph」は19せいきに英語で「stereo-」と「-graph」を結合して作られた語で、19せいきちゅう〜おわりにステレオ写真やそれを観る器具（ステレオスコープ／ステレオカード）が普及したことで英語の用法が確立した。
もともとは「立体を描く」という構成だったが、時間とともに「立体に見える写真（またはそのカード・器具）」という具体的な意味に発展した。
