「non-Latino」は英語で、否定接頭辞「non-」（ラテン語の'non'「〜でない」から）と、スペイン語の'latino'（最終的にはラテン語'Latinus'「ラティウム出身・ラテンの」）の結合でできている。
「Latino」はスペイン語の'latino'が英語に入ったもので、さらにその語源はラテン語'Latinus'である。接頭辞「non-」はラテン語／古フランス語を経て英語に入り、'non-'＋'Latino'の結合で現代英語の'non-Latino'ができた。
