語源
「gauche」はフランス語の単語「gauche」に由来し、当初は「左」を意味した。
「gauche」は19世紀初頭に英語に借用された。フランス語では古くから「左」を意味し、英語では文字どおりの意味と「不器用・気まずい」といった比喩的意味の両方が伝わった。
