語源
「defect」はラテン語の「deficere」（過去分詞形「defectus」）に由来し、接頭辞「de-」は「離れて・〜から」を、語幹は「（する）行為」を意味した（元は『失敗する・欠ける』の意）。
「defect」はラテン語の「defectus/deficere」から、古仏語・アンゴ＝フランス語を経て中英語に入り、現代英語の『defect』（名詞・動詞）や派生語『defection』などに発展した。
