語源
「automaticity」は英語で、形容詞 'automatic' に接尾辞 '-ity'（ラテン語 '-itas' 由来）をつけた語に由来します。ギリシャ語語根の 'auto-' は「自己」、'matos'（'automatos'）は「自ら動く／自己作用する」を意味しました。
『automaticity』は、フランス語 'automatique' やギリシャ語 'automatos' を経て、19～20世紀に英語で 'automatic' に '-ity' を付けて作られ、現代の名詞 'automaticity' となりました。
当初は「自己で動くこと／自動的であること」という意味に限られていましたが、心理学分野などで「無意識に行える状態（技能の自動化）」という意味へと広がりました。
