語源
「automatism」はフランス語の「automatisme」に由来し、「automate」（ギリシャ語の「automatos」から） は「自ら動く」という意味を持っていた（ギリシャ語の「autos」は「自己」を意味する）。
「automatism」はフランス語の「automatisme」から変化し、19世紀に英語に取り入れられた。フランス語語はギリシャ語「automatos」を経由しており、現代英語の「automatism」になった。
