'astasia' はギリシャ語の語 'astasis'（ἀστάσις）に由来し、接頭辞 'a-' は「〜がない」、'stasis' は「立つこと」を意味した。
'astasia' はギリシャ語の 'astasis' から医学ラテン語の 'astasia' を経て、現代英語の医学用語 'astasia' になった。
