語源
「aryanism」は英語の名詞 'Aryan' と接尾辞 '-ism'（～主義）から来ている。英語の 'Aryan' は最終的にサンスクリット語の ā́rya やアヴェスター語の airya に由来し、元は「高貴な・尊い」を意味した。
「Aryan」は18〜19世紀の比較言語学で印欧語族の一部を示す語として採用され、19世紀後半から20世紀初頭にかけて欧州で人種化され、政治運動の文脈で用いられるようになった。その流れで 'aryanism' が人種主義的な教義を指す語として生まれ、特にナチスの思想と強く結び付いた。
