語源
'apomixis'は新ラテン語に由来し、ギリシャ語の接頭辞「apo-」（離れて）と「mixis」（混合）から形成され、文字通り「混ざらない」を意味する。
'apomixis'は19世紀末から20世紀初頭にかけて植物学や新ラテン語で造られ、ギリシャ語要素 'apo-' + 'mixis' から派生して現代の科学英語 'apomixis' として定着した。
当初は文字どおり「混ざらない」を意味していたが、時間を経て「遺伝的混合（受精）がない生殖」を特に指す語になった。
