語源
「aphesis」はニューラテン語に由来し、最終的にはギリシャ語の「『ἀφέσις』(aphesis)」から来ており、ギリシャ語の動詞「『ἀφίημι』(aphiēmi)」は「手放す・放つ」を意味した。
『aphesis』はギリシャ語の『ἀφέσις』から学術的・医学的なラテン語に入り、後に英語（主に言語学・文献学の文脈）に取り入れられ、語頭母音の脱落を指す語として定着した。
