語源
『Yankee-esque』は名詞『Yankee』と形容詞を作る接尾辞『-esque』（フランス語の『-esque』由来）から成り、『〜風の』『〜のような』という意味を表す。
『Yankee』はおそらくオランダ語の『Janke』（『Jan』の愛称形）に由来し、初期のニューイングランド入植者のあだ名として用いられた。接尾辞『-esque』はフランス語の『-esque』（最終的にはイタリア語の『-esco』）から英語に入り、『picturesque』のような語形成を経て『Yankee-esque』が作られた。
