語源
「theologize」は現代英語に由来し、名詞『theology』＋動詞化接尾辞『-ize』から作られた。『theology』はギリシャ語『theologia』に由来し、『theo-』は「神」、『logia』は「話すこと・学び」を意味した。
『theologize』は英語で『theology』に『-ize』を付けて作られた。『theology』はギリシャ語『theologia』がラテン語・古フランス語を経て中英語の『theologie』などになり、近代以降に動詞形『theologize / theologise』が現れた。
当初は『神について語る・書くこと』という意味だったが、現在では『神学的な議論や思索を行う』という動詞的な意味に発展している。
