語源
「somatics」は最終的にギリシャ語の「sōma」（「身体」）に由来し、形容詞「somatic」（ギリシャ語の「sōmatikos」経由）から来ている。
ギリシャ語の「sōma」→ラテン語・中世の語形変化→英語の形容詞「somatic」（身体に関する）→分野や実践を示す名詞「somatics」へ発展した。
当初は単に「身体に関する」を意味していたが、次第に身体の気づきやエンボディメントに関する専門的な学問・実践群を指す語へと変化した。
