語源
「revenue」は古フランス語の「revenu」に由来し、もととなる動詞「revenir」では「re-」が「戻る」を、「venir」が「来る」を意味した。
「revenue」は古フランス語の「revenu」から中英語の「revenue」を経て、現代英語の「revenue」になった。
当初は「戻ってくるもの」や「戻ってくること」を意味していたが、次第に「人・企業・国家の収入（特に定期的な収入）」という現在の意味に発展した。
