語源
「prolepsis」はギリシャ語の「prolēpsis」(πρόληψις) に由来し、『pro-』は「前に」を意味し、『lambanein』に由来する語根（lêpsis）は「取る・つかむ」を意味した。
「prolēpsis」は後にラテン語（中世ラテン語）へ入り、フランス語の形（例: prolepsie）を経て英語の「prolepsis」になった。
当初は「先に取ること・先取りすること」を意味していたが、時代とともに「先取り・予め述べること」という核心を保ちながら、修辞・物語・文法などの特定の意味に広がった。
