語源
「post-millennial」は接頭辞「post-」（ラテン語 'post'、「〜の後」）と「millennial」（「millennium」から）を組み合わせてできており、文字通り「千年紀の後」を意味する。
ラテン語の 'mille'（「千」）と 'annus'（「年」）から後期ラテン語で 'millennium' が生じ、英語で 'millennial' が発展した。19世紀に接頭辞 'post-' が付いて特に神学的文脈で 'post-millennial' が作られ、その後世俗的な用法にも拡大した。
