語源
『perverse』はラテン語の『perversus』に由来し、『per-』は「完全に／徹底的に」を、『vertere』は「向ける／回す」を意味した。
『perverse』は古フランス語の『pervers』や中英語の『pervers(e)』を経て、現代英語の『perverse』になった。
当初は「（文字どおり）方向を変える／完全にそらす」という意味だったが、時間とともに「意図的に逆らう」「道徳的に歪んだ」といった現在の意味に発展した。
