語源
「nonisometric」は英語の接頭辞「non-」（ラテン語の「non」から、意味は「〜でない」）と「isometric」から成る。『isometric』は最終的にギリシャ語の『isos』（等しい）と『metron』（測る）に由来する。
『isometric（等尺）』はギリシャ語の『isometrikos』（『isos』＋『metron』に関連）に由来し、学術ラテン語や近代のヨーロッパ語に入った後、英語で生産的な接頭辞『non-』と結合して『nonisometric』が作られた。
当初『isometric』は「等しい測り」の意だったが、『nonisometric』はそれの否定形として「等しくない／距離を保たない」という意味で成立し、専門的対立を保っている。
