語源
「non-progressive」は現代英語で、「non-」（否定接頭辞）と形容詞「progressive」（'progress'に由来）を組み合わせて作られた語です。
「progressive」は最終的にラテン語の 'progressus'（'progredi' の過去分詞、前へ進む）に由来し、古フランス語や中英語・近代英語を経て英語の 'progressive' になり、そこに英語の接頭辞 'non-' が付いて 'non-progressive' が作られました。
元は「前に進む／進歩を支持する」という意味でしたが、『non-progressive』は「進歩的でない」を意味するようになり、文法では「進行相を用いない」という専門的意味が定着しました。
