語源
「non-astigmatic」は英語で否定接頭辞「non-」と「astigmatic」を合わせて作られた語です。'astigmatic'はギリシャ語由来で、後に新ラテン語やフランス語を経て英語に入っています。
「astigmatic」は新ラテン語'astigmatismus'やフランス語'astigmatique'に由来し、ギリシャ語の要素（a-「不〜」＋stigmē「点・印」）から医学・光学用語として成立しました。19世紀に英語で'astigmatic'が用いられ、その後英語で'non-'が付いて'non-astigmatic'が作られました。
元々は「一点（の焦点）がない」という意味（文字通りの意味）でしたが、時代とともに医学・光学用語としての『乱視（の有無）』を表す意味に変化し、否定形は『乱視がない』という現在の意味になりました。
