語源
「idealize」は新ラテン語・近代フランス語的な形成で、'ideal'（理想・観念）に動詞化接尾辞'-ize'（ギリシャ語'-izein'経由）を付けてできたもので、'ideal'はギリシャ語の'idea'（形・観念）に由来します。
『ideal』はギリシャ語の'idea'（ἰδέα、「形・種類・観念」）に由来し、ラテン語を経てフランス語・英語に入り、そこに生産的な接尾辞'-ize'が付いて近代英語の'idealize'になりました。
もともとは「観念・形」に関する語でしたが、次第に「理想的に考える／理想化する」という動詞的意味に発展しました。
