語源
「dihedral」は近代ラテン語/ギリシャ語の語根に由来し、フランス語の「dièdre」を経てきた。接頭辞の「di-」は「2」を意味し、ギリシャ語の「hēdra（ἕδρα）」は「座」や「面」を意味した。
「dihedral」はフランス語の「dièdre」（ギリシャ語成分由来）から18～19世紀に英語の数学用語として入り、現代英語の「dihedral」になった。
当初は「2つの面を持つこと」を指していたが、次第に「2つの平面に関すること、またはそれらがなす角」を意味するようになった（航空では翼の角度も指す）。
