語源
「daimon」は古代ギリシャ語の「δαίμων（daimōn）」に由来し、語根は「神の力」あるいは「精霊」を指していた。
「daimon」はラテン語の「daemon」を経て中世・近代英語の「daemon/daimon/demon」に入り、キリスト教的用法により意味が悪霊へと変化したが、古典文献では中立的な意味が残る。
