語源
「cross-eye」は英語起源で、形容詞「'cross'」と名詞「'eye'」を結合した複合語である。
英語の「'cross'」は古英語／古ノルド語を経てラテン語の「'crux'（十字）」に関係があり、「'eye'」は古英語の「'eage'」に由来する。現代の複合語「'cross-eye'」はこれらの語素を結合して「目が寄っている」ことを表す語になった。
