語源
「chamomile」はギリシャ語の『khamaimēlon』に由来する。『khamai』は「地面の上」を、『mēlon』は「リンゴ」を意味した。
『khamaimēlon』はラテン語で『chamaemelum』になり、古仏語の『camomille』を経て中英語に入り、現代英語の『chamomile』となった。
元々は「地面のリンゴ（地面に咲くリンゴのような香りのもの）」を意味したが、次第に植物自体やその花から作るお茶を指す現在の意味に発展した。
