語源
「busing」は英語の「bus」に由来し、この「bus」は最終的にラテン語の「omnibus」に遡る。「omni-」は「すべて」を意味した。
「busing」は19世紀初頭に「omnibus」の短縮形として英語に入った名詞「bus」から発展した。ラテン語の「omnibus」（「すべて」を意味する「omnis」に由来）から短縮され、「bus」となり、のちに動詞「to bus」や名詞「busing」が派生した。
元々は「すべての人のため」という意味に関係していたが、次第に「多数の人を乗せる乗り物」の意味になり、さらに「バスで移送する」という動詞や「生徒を移送する政策」を指す語へと変化した。
