語源
「auricula」はラテン語由来で、古典ラテン語の「auricula」（「auris」'耳'の小辞形）から来ており、『aur-』は「耳」を、『-cula』は『小さい』を意味した。
「auricula」は古典ラテン語から中世ラテン語・新ラテン語を経て英語の解剖学用語や植物名に影響を与えた。英語の 'auricle' に関連し、植物名として直接 'auricula' が使われるようになった。
当初は「小さな耳」を意味したが、やがて心臓の耳状突起などの耳状の構造や、プリムラ・オーリキュラのような植物名にも用いられるようになった。
