語源
「astrodiagnosis」は近代英語で、接頭辞『astro-』（ギリシャ語 'astron'＝「星」）と『diagnosis』（ギリシャ語 'diágnōsis'＝「識別・判断」）の合成から成る。
『diagnosis』はギリシャ語からラテン語・中世ラテン語を経て英語に入り、合成語『astrodiagnosis』は18〜20せいき以降の占術・占星術文献で用いられた近代英語の形成語である。
もともとギリシャ語の 'diágnōsis' は「識別」を意味し、後に病気の特定を指すようになった。『astro-』と結びつき現代では「星による診断」を意味するようになった。
