語源
「architectonic」はギリシャ語の語『arkhitektonikos』（ἀρχιτεκτονικός）に由来し、『arkhi-』は「長・主要」を、『tekton』は「大工・建築者」を意味した。
『architectonic』は後期ラテン語の『architectonicus』や中世ラテン語を経て、古フランス語などの影響を受けた形から中英語に入り、最終的に現代英語の『architectonic』となった。
当初は「棟梁や建築に関する」という意味だったが、次第に「建築に関する」「構造的・体系的な」という現在の意味へ広がった。
