語源
「apriorism」はラテン語の語句「a priori」に由来し、「a」は「〜から」、「priori」は「以前の（前の）」を意味し、さらに「-ism（主義・学説）」が付いてできた語です。
「a priori」は古典ラテン語や中世ラテン語で「より前から（順序または論理的に先）」を意味し、哲学用語としてヨーロッパ諸語に入り、英語では先験的推論に基づく学説を表す『apriorism』という派生語が生まれました。
もともとは「より前から」を意味しましたが、時間的・論理的優先を示す語が発展して『経験に依存しない知識や正当化を主張する学説』という現在の意味になりました。
