語源
「antipersonnel」は接頭辞の「anti-」（ギリシャ語の「対〜」）とフランス語の「personnel」から来ている。
「anti-」（ギリシャ語）と「personnel」（フランス語、ラテン語の「persona」由来）が結合して現代英語の「antipersonnel」となり、特に20世紀中頃以降軍事用語として使われるようになった。
当初は文字通り「人に対する（もの）」を意味していたが、次第に「人を標的とする兵器」を指す専門用語として定着した。
