語源
『anthophile』はギリシャ語の要素『anthos』（花）と『philos』（愛する）に由来し、ニューラテン語／近代の造語として合成された語である。
ギリシャ語『anthos』＋『philos』からニューラテン語・新ギリシャ語風の形成（例：'anthophilus'／'anthophile'）が生まれ、19世紀に英語へ導入された。
当初は「花を愛する人」を意味したが、やがて花を訪れる生物（蜜や花粉を求める昆虫など）を指す用法にも広がった。
