語源
「standard」は古フランス語の『estendard／estandart』に由来し、『estand-』の部分は（立つ）という意味のゲルマン語起源に関係しています。
『standard』は古フランス語の『estendard／estandart』から中英語の『standard／stondard』を経て、現代英語の『standard』になりました。
当初は『戦いで用いる旗・軍旗』を意味していましたが、次第に『測るための基準・規範』という現在の意味に発展しました。
