語源
「Aquitaine」はラテン語の「Aquitania」に由来し、当該地域に住んでいたアキタニ族の土地を指していた。
ラテン語の「Aquitania」は古フランス語の「Aquitane」を経て中英語に取り入れられ、最終的に現代英語の「Aquitaine」になった。
当初はアキタニ族の領域を示していたが、時代とともにローマの属州、中世の公国、そして近代の行政的・地理的地域を意味するようになった。
