語源
「touch-up」は英語の 'touch'＋'up' に由来する。'touch' は古フランス語 'touchier'（俗ラテン語 *toccare に由来）で「打つ・触れる」を意味し、'up' は古英語の 'up' で「上へ・上の位置」を意味した。
『touch』は古フランス語 'touchier' から中英語の 'touchen' を経て現代英語の 'touch' になり、これが古英語の 'up' と結びついて近代英語で小さな修正を意味する 'touch up'／名詞 'touch-up' が成立した。
当初は『触れる・打つ』という意味だったが、次第に『わずかに変える・手を加える』という意味を帯び、'touch up' は『小さく手直しする・修正する』という意味に発展した。
