語源
「topical」はギリシャ語の語『topikos』（『topos』に由来）に起源があり、『topos』は「場所」を意味した。
『topical』はラテン語の『topicus』を経て中世フランス語や学術ラテン語に入り、17世紀に現代英語の『topical』になった。
当初は「場所に関する」を意味していたが、やがて「話題や主題に関する」という意味に広がり、後に医療分野で「皮膚に塗布する・局所用」の専門的意味も持つようになった。
