語源
『stultify』はラテン語の『stultificare』に由来する。ここで『stultus』は「愚かな」を意味し、『-ficare』（『facere』に由来）は「〜を作る、させる」を意味する。
『stultificare』はラテン語で「愚かにする」という意味で用いられ、17世紀初頭に英語に『stultify』として取り入れられた（『stultus』＋『-fy』の直接的な形成）。
