語源
「scrum」は英語に由来し、もともと『scrummage』（または 'scrimmage'）の短縮形で、長い形は所有を争う密集した混乱した争いを指した。
『scrum』は19世紀に使われた英語の長い語『scrummage／scrimmage』から変化した。19世紀後半にラグビー用語として短縮形の『scrum』が一般化し、その後比喩的に広まり、経営・開発用語にもなった。
当初は粗暴な争いや密集した争いを意味していたが、次第にラグビーのフォーメーションを指すようになり、現代では混雑した争いを指すほか、プロジェクト管理のフレームワーク『スクラム』としての用法も確立した。
