語源
「salinity」はラテン語に由来し、語根の「sal」が「塩」を意味し、形容詞形の「salinus」と抽象名詞を作る接尾辞「-ity」（ラテン語の「-itas」）が結びついたものです。
「salinity」は中世/近代ラテン語の要素（salinus + -itas）から形成され、17世紀に「塩分」や「塩辛さ」を意味して英語に入ったと考えられます。
