語源
『orthodromous』はギリシャ語の『orthodromos』に由来し、『ortho-』は「まっすぐ／正しい」を、『dromos』は「走る／経路」を意味した。
『orthodromous』はギリシャ語『orthodromos』（ὀρθόδρομος）からネオラテン／近代の学術用語を経て英語に入った。関連語に『orthodrome』（大圏航路）がある。
