語源
「one-sidedness」は英語に由来し、形容詞「one-sided」と名詞化接尾辞「-ness」から成る。『one』は古英語の「ān」（1）に、『side』は古英語の「sīde」（側面・側）にさかのぼる。
「one-sidedness」は、初めに『one』＋『-sided』という複合語（近代英語期に成立）に名詞化接尾辞『-ness』を付けて作られ、現代英語の名詞『one-sidedness』になった。
当初は『一方の側に属すること・一側的であること』という文字通りの意味だったが、やがて『不均衡』や『偏り・一方的であること（評価的意味）』という現在の意味に広がった。
