語源
「one-on-one」は英語に由来し、もともとは句「one on one」で、「one」は数の1を、「on」は『対する・向かい合う』の意味で使われた。
「one on one」は20世紀初頭のスポーツや日常語で『1人対1人』を表す表現として現れ、次第に私的な面談などにも使われるようになり、現代英語ではハイフンを入れて「one-on-one」と表記されることが多い。
当初は主に競技での対決を指したが、時間とともに『個別の面談・やり取り』など広い意味に拡張された。
